Calling all London youth to action

Hi, my name is Anna and I am working for the next two years on the youth projects and learning initiatives for the Transforming IWM London programme.

I love my job.  I got it through a combination of hard work and jumping at all the work experience and internship opportunities I could.  Now I get to offer a few opportunities to young people trying to make their own future careers exciting.  This makes me happy.

We are currently looking to recruit the creative, thoughtful, interested and sparky young minds of the next generation for a new role in the museum. We want young people to challenge our organisation for the future and help us to make the museum relevant to younger people.  We are going through some exciting changes including the building redevelopment at IWM London, a cultural programme to mark the centenary of the First World War followed by IWM London’s 100th birthday in 2017.

We are recruiting a small group of headstrong young people, 14 – 19 years old and giving them a host of opportunities to get involved across departments such as Design, Digital Media, Events, Marketing, Business and Planning, Learning and Interpretation, Exhibitions, Conservation and more…  Great for anyone who wants to take their future into their own hands and step up as a youth representative.

If you are, or you know, someone between the ages of 14 to 19 who enjoys a challenge, is brave and creative, then come find out what it means to be a representative of the museum’s future at one of our taster sessions at IWM London.

Wednesday 27 June, 4.15 – 5.45pm
Monday 16 July, 4.15 – 5.45pm
Sunday 29 July, 2.00 – 3.30pm

And make sure to check out our new Facebook page or follow the discussion on Twitter #youngiwm.

I look forward to meeting you!

Is this just open to people living in London? I live in Hull but would love to get involved if this is possible, I would be grateful for any information you could give me.

      Hi Charlotte!

Thanks for your interest. The youth panel is not exclusively for young people in London; however, you would be expected to come for workshops and on-site days at IWM London at least once every two months and we can’t provide reimbursement for the cost of your travel to the museum. If you’re still interested, get in touch and we can discuss.

You can also join the Young IWM Facebook community as a way to stay up-to-date with all our Young IWM activities. This means that even if you can’t commit to the youth panel at IWM London, you can join one off events and summer schools for anyone who is 14-19 years old and wants to be involved.
